Well friends, summer is most definitely making herself known in our neck of the woods. We’ve had a heat advisory pretty much everyday this week. I’m talkin brutally HAWT! Of course, I would choose this week to be outside photographing our patio. (blogger fail) It’s ok though because I’ve been working hard over the last month to finish up the space and I’m excited to finally share it with you today.
Before you can appreciate the progress though, you have to see the “before”.
Ugh, that’s just depressing! The fence desperately needed a good pressure washing and the yard (although covered in a light dusting of snow) had nothing going on. I mean N.O.T.H.I.N.G.!
The patio itself wasn’t much better either. (This was taken early Spring last year, I think)
I had to dig deep for those pics you guys.
Anyway, the timing of those photos doesn’t matter because here is what the backyard/patio looks like now.
So much better right???
The monogrammed pillow is without a doubt the cherry on top of this neutral design.
**Side note – in the picture below I forgot to move one of my camera lenses. HA! See it?**
Oh well, I blame the heat! I could have photoshopped it out but I figured you might like to play a little game of Where’s Waldo. 🙂
Anyway, back to the important stuff.
For years I have longed for a lush backyard full of beautiful plants, flowers and shrubbery and while I know my black thumb has a long way to go, I finally feel like I’m on the right path.
This Spring we planted several Loropetalum shrubs along the fence in the hope that they will grow together and create a privacy hedge.
We also planted a limelight hydrangea tree and y’all…I can’t even begin to tell you how much I LOVE this tree! I know she looks a little lopsided but that’s an easy fix. When this season is over I’ll prune her back and shape her up. I mean look at her.
Gorgeous! Who knew a plant could bring so much joy! Sometimes I just sit and stare.
And can I just say, I’m also obsessed with this fern! Look at how huge it is.
To give this space some additional love, I added some purple striped Petunias.
Some red Geraniums.
And a hot pink Mophead Hydrangea shrub. (The photo on the left was taken a few weeks after I planted it. Unfortunately I lost the blooms in a bad storm and I’m patiently waiting for it to bloom again. In the meantime my Creeping Jenny has really taken off.)
Flowers make everything better!
As you can see Mr. Vale has a BBQ addiction. He’s become quite the pitmaster and you can bet every weekend we are out here sipping a cold beverage, enjoying the patio and smoking up something yummy. He makes a mean brisket!
I can’t wait till it cools down a bit and we can really enjoy this space! It’s hard to relax in 99 degree heat! Am I right?!
As always, thanks for stoping by today friends! I hope enjoyed our patio makeover.
